Grinn comes from a long family line of pioneer, exploring miners who were one of the first to carve out Volruhm. His grandfather was the first to find the largest deposit of iron in the world. His father, tasked with developing their claim, began the process of building the family estate.

However, the discovery of a new mineral, mithril, changed everything. Iron became far less in demand, and it suddenly made them paupers. Miserable to see such an esteemed and respected family fall in such a way, the young King Stoneforge II promised that they would never go without and provided them an estate and means on which to live. This sent Grinn’s father into depression and to the bottle, ashamed and embarassed.

Grinn as he aged felt the same misery, and, mixed with distrust of the presence of Dark Elves, became also equally a drunk, but with the added bonus of spitefulness. Not only did he distrust them, but they received more respect and deference than even his own people. A mixture of drunkenness and anger led to his banishment, and thus even deeper into his own depression.

Wandering the lands of Eres Arandor, Grinn sought any work that would provide him drink and a place to stay, though it was always a challenge with distrust growing between the Humans around him and his own people. Now, wayward and lost, he finds a group of others who, too, seem out of their element, and possibly could give him a chance where everyone else who already knew him gave up on him immediately.
