Magic in the world of Andoria requires the use of components, trinkets and talismans taken from the flora and fauna of the environment. These are used up as the ancient incantations are uttered and energy is channeled through the user and their components to make the spells materialize.

Many spells are of menial design, simple-use castings of flames or charms to ward off creatures, but others are more offensive, dangerous, and require more study to perfect safely and effectively. This is where the system of guilds or ‘schools’ offered people the chance to study and use magic, after a lengthy period of years of dedication that is.

The wizarding guilds have a structured set of lengthy mastery challenges offered after many years of study and practice of the arts. Each bit of magic regardless of effect or size is considered in one of five schools: elemental, spiritual, physical, conditional, and abyssal (often referred to as dakba, or dark).

Many spells have been crafted in magic’s history, as well as secondary magical talents such as alchemy, enchantment, and conjuration that, while are not considered schools, are nearly large enough to be. As such, it is not mentioned at length about things not to be seen used directly in the course of our story. To give more of an understanding of those that do appear, it will be mentioned their uses and some data related to them.
