Magic exists in Andoria, but for the Frost Elves, it is forbidden. Their people, insular and hidden in the world, do not permit those who are born with the natural gift to practice it. They are given an option to leave, but told never to return.

Layniegh begged her parents to let her see what her inborn gift would provide for her. This meant seeking a new home, one that would be suitable for both her study and her family to thrive. Naturally, with the diverse population as it had, Paz was the natural destination.

Paz did not have a formal school, though one did exist physically. The headmaster had long ago departed for other interests, leaving the teachers behind. These eventually took up work in King Decx’s vast invention empire, allowing the school to lay disused. This gave Layniegh the perfect environment to study in a quiet and remote place amid the massive city.

For her, magic was something she was, not just a thing she could do. Not every Frost Elf is born with the connection to the mystical arts. And when she met the young Human boy it excited her because for the first time she met someone else with that born trait, and knew that meeting him was not by chance, not in the slightest.
