Magic is an ancient form of transference of energy from both the spellcaster and the components used to change the physical world into mystical projections. These can come in many forms and in many schools, or subjects. Throughout all societies, what term is used to refer to a student of magic will vary between mage and wizard, with Mage being the more formal title and wizard being more of a common moniker. Below is how the wizarding guilds are ordered:

  • Initiate: These are first-year students who shadow others to learn about magic on the periphery; its uses to society, protection of components from over-harvesting, and things of that nature
  • Student: Those who not just study the scripted incantations but are also responsible for keeping the stores of components flush with stock. They’re also rotated from one duty, like cooking or cleaning.
  • Assistant Mage: A student who has graduated, but not yet approved to be sent to work among society and perform duties for the public. They help archmages and current headmasters in dealing with school issues, which include organizational, development and curricula changes.
  • Mage: Spell casters that have been approved to serve magic for others. They are taught and trained in the importance of how magic should best be used within each kingdom based on their laws and local customs. Only they can open up shops or serve nobles or kings.
  • Archmage/Headmaster: A mage who has spent a great deal of time out in the world using their abilities. These are tasked with teaching, testing, and development of high-end curricula for those nearing their graduation to Mage. They are also responsible for notifying Darynn of any particularly outstanding student.
  • Wizard: A master user of magic. This can be used whether a person has been a formal member of education or not. Only those of the highest skill are considered wizards, and most all who would be considered “evil” are just assigned this title, not having any proper organization among those ranks.
